So it's November and my life can be boiled down to one thing. Nanowrimo
1700 words a day for 30 days. Gods only knows if i'll write novel worth anything this month but once again I have to try. I think I'm already enjoying the late night writing sessions and word sprints. If i seem flakey during this month it's becuase of my tendency to stare at the screen for hours trying to make any sensible words come out.
* Also must step up my weight loss program this month.
* I had another point and I've forgotten it already.
* Job hunting again, plz take me nofrills.

Protests and pounding feet
So in the past two days I've been witness to two large scales protests while I was on the bus.
The first effected me the least but pissed me off the most. On all four corners of a major intersections there were anti abortion protesters. Now let me say that I have the utmost respect for everyone on both sides of the debate and as log as you don't try to hurt me or force your views on me I'm fine in fact I could even have been bothered by the protest if there hadn't been a small girl of maybe 7 , looking cold and bored holding a sign saying " Abortion hurts children".
I'm sorry I refuse to believe that kid was out their of their own free will and wanted nothing more than to the spread the word of pro life. Think what you want people but exploiting a child to save children just smacks of wrong to me. It was cold yesterday you were standing right at a bus stop breathing in fumes and at least one of you was using your child to promote your message.
The second protest was part of a sepcial bus union on strike. All the morte power to them asfar as I'm concerned except when they are marching infront of mah buss making it impossible to leave the station. making me nearly late to job trianing does not make me sympathise more with you. also your stike is causing choas tryign to get anywhere on the busses that are left.
I had job trianing today 3 1/2 hours on me feet and they ache like hell.
p.s To nut nut: You should petition to get Canadian election coverage, the things we do are important too I swear.

I have been tagged
The always awesome nut nut tagged me for this meme, I think I've seen it before back when I was on Livejournal.
Here are the rules:
Grab the nearest book. Open the book to page 56. Find the fifth sentence. Post the text of the next two to five sentences in your journal/blog along with these instructions. Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST. Tag five other people to do the same.
Page 56, 5th sentence:
The Third Reich made clever use of the Neibelung legends.
The demon lover: The roots of terrorism. By Robin Morgan.
Technically my volume 2 Gravitation manga was closer by a few inches( aka I have books littering the floor so I can easily spot and reach what I want) . However Manga are essentially Japanese comic books and I don't think soemthing entirely composed of dialogue and pretty pictures counts.
Just in case though
pg 56 sentence 5
" Maybe not but those two guys are way more popular than I am."
Gravitation volume 2 by Maki murakami.
Sentence is also very true Shuichi and Hiro are far more popular than boring student council dude. Then again being main characters it's kind of a given.
* Not that iIthink anyone will but a warnign to anyone who googles gravitation out of curiosity. It is a shonen ai meaning it contains homosexual content.
This was a fun little meme. I don't have anyone I can actually tag but I may see if I can't get soem lj friends to do it just to carry on the chain.

Politics and other things weighing me down
So tonight was the night my fiancee and I sat down for some survivor and Grey's anatomy, typical Thursday goodness. We get through survivor just fine ( good job getting rid of Paloma , Kota)and go to find grey's. Apparently the american and canadian debates are all that's on tv. 900 channels and atleast half of them one of the two debates.
Despite being Canadian we started with the American debate. It was boring and less debating then pimping out the president each Vice supported. They went on about the floundering economy and so we switched. Canadian debated is also going through economy questions.
Bloc leader: I cannot understand more than 4 words from him at a time and one of them happens to be Quebec.
Dion: Trying desperately to defend past liberal screw ups and blame everything else on Harper.
Harper: under serious attack and mostly mumbling about investments and how canada just needs time.
May: First time I've seen here and she seems a bit overly hopefull but full or snark and ideas.
Layton: Spends a lot of time agreeing with may and badgering Harper and Dion.
It's not over yet but already I'm failing to see much of interest being discussed and they all need to learn not to talk over each other.
In other news
Weightloss has succeeded in 3 lbs lost so far. it feels good but it's hard to keep up the momentum. Exercising more is a lot easier than agreeing to eat less. especially when it's chinese takeout night tommorow.

updates
I know I know I went awol for a bit there, life got ahold of me and I felt like I didn't have time to write down anything worth reading.
First off our beta died but according to Alex's parents who gave him to us he was nearly 2 anyways and that's how long Beta's generally live. We're contemplating getting a new one so the pleco that's still in the tank isn't lonely.
I'm still waiting for an update on job training since my first trianing got resheduled. In the mean time i'm studying the restaurants menue so I won't horribly misspell any foreign dishes.
Started a new exercise regime on tuesday, so far things are goign fairly well. I don't expect to see a huge drop by next tuesday but losing even soem water weight would be nice.
I'm finding myself bored more and more often during the day and nothign seems to be able to keep my attention.
Loving the first few episodes of House, biggest loser, Survivor and greys anatomy. it feels good to have a tv shedule again and immerse myself in the little dramas the shows provide. I'm also hooked on at the end of my leash and the dog whisperer. Pet shows make me happy

I got it !
Despite being nervous as all hell I made it through another interview and got a job at a local restaurant. I have training Monday and if I make it past that I'll be starting the first week of October. On a down note it's a 3 mile walk round trip so on days when I don't take the bus it's gonna be less than pleasant to walk 1. and 1/2 miles there then stand around for 8 hours on my feet only to walk home. Still decent pay and good hours should make up for it.
We are having problem with the unnamed beta fish, apparently the filter in the tank is being stupid and stopped during the day. This messed with the water and made the fish lethargic. Hopefully he recovers.

Meme time
1. Link the person who tagged you. That would be the great Nut nut
2. Mention the rules on your blog.
3. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours.
4. Tag 6 following bloggers by linking them.
5. Leave a comment on each of the tagged blogger’s blogs letting them know they’ve been tagged.
This should be easy since most of my friends consider me quirky in an unspectacular kind of way.
1. I hate talking to strangers on the phone. My fiance and i can spend a half hour arguing over who's going to order fast food based aroudn who's willing to break their no talking to strangers over the phone rule. It's a strange inexplicable fear but it's there and likely won't go away. ( Sidenote: at 14 you couldn't get me off the phone. I'd make up an excuse to call anyone. Where this sudden fear came from no one knows)
2. Before I read books I have to smell them. open them to somewhere in the middle and breathe deep. I've done this since I was very little, it's noticeable and a bit embarrassing when it happens in public since it's mostly subconscious.
3. When listening to music on the computer I have to know what I want to hear at least five songs in advance. I can't just pick random songs and be happy even though i like pretty much everything we have in our music files.
4. I flip to the end of every book I own and read the last sentence first. Most of the time this does nothing to spoil the story and doesn't bother me. I just have to do it ^-^
5. I like to suck the flavouring off chips before I eat them.
6. I refer to everyone I know by their online screename even if I know their real name, even in RL.
Lol I have only one follower and she's the one who tagged me so I can't really spread the Meme. Unless you're reading this and care to try it anyway. ^-^

Everything all at once
It seems to me that things, both good and bad tend to happen all at once.
Right now after months of no bites on job offers I got two interview offers within 24 hours of each other. Went to one today and got accepted. Sadly I found out their ad was bit misleading and I'd have to bus myself to a different location everyday. Depending on weather or not that'd eat up most of what I'll be making I'll accept it. Still hoping to get the other job though since it's closer and a steady location.
Maybe it was the move, I go across town get a new partment, new fish ( still unammed and narcissistic ) and a bunch of new oppertunities. It feels like life is finally starting to make sense. I still haven't got it all figured out but at least I have a less stressed mind to put to work on it.

Why me?
The setting : Our apartment at 7 AM
The players:
Fiancee: About to head off for work and making toast.
Me: Up all night from insomnia about to go to bed, Naked( yes it's important)
Smoke detector: Possibly older than god and can be set off by steam from a hot shower or boiling water on occasion.
The result: Fire alarm goes off, I end up standing under it stretching up with one finger and pressing the stupid stop button every few seconds like I'm a lesbian pornstar . All the while while I also balance the base of a huge cosicalting fan on my hip and use my free hand to steady it and direct it at the smoke detector.
The fiancee? She turns on all the fans in the house, says she has to leave for work and dissapears. Now I'm stuck in an awkward postion freezing my respective parts off becuase if I put the damn fan down and stop pressing the button long enough to get a nightgown the smoke detectors going to let out another siren scream
The worst part however, is since the detector has been set off recently now I can't make toast or the same thing will happen all over again even with 4 fans running.

A look at the Microsoft Surface hard at work
http://www.vectorform.com/surface/
While I'm not particularly interested in the political talk going on in the video ( although the idea of the 269-269 tie is hilarious to me) I love seeing the surface in action. I realize it's going to be several years before anyone in the general public can get their hands on one, nevermind anyone outside of the sates but this thing is looking better and better every time I see a new demo of it.
I'm thinking that while yes ads have shown it's likely to be a hit for big businesses like casino'ss and resaturants it also needs to have appeal to the rest of us and I tried to figure out exactly who might use it and why.
I can see it being a great asset to artists. Most tablets are pretty damn small and being able to draw on something as big as the surface would certainly make life easier. Digital colouring made easier and resizing with just the touch of a finger would certainly make it worth while depending on the cost. The fact that it can recognize multiple touchpoints at once could lead to group art projects at parties.
Infact the multiple touch recognition is what I love the most becuase I think it will have the most uses to everyday people. It seems like an item that could really gather people around the table so to speak and let everyone be involved. After a roadtrip friends could sit around the table and each pick out the photos they want to keep or toss from everyones camer'as at once, thus eliminating the needs for everyone to send everyoen else every single picturte they took. 5 people 5 camera and 1 table computer.
Blogging could be done with actual handwriting to add an even more personal touch.
The geek in me is thinking of some pretty cool applications of it that could be used to play D&D using the touch technology to move chars along maps. Perhaps with preprogrammed encounters if you touch a certain area
Clearly there's the possibly of really cool applications for music as well which could bring about a whole new generation of musicians creating music and mixes we can't even imagine yet.
In general I'm just happy to see the Microsoft surface getting more attention because it increases my hope that increased media exposure means it'll soon be available to the general populace.
Anyone have thoughts on what they'd do if they had one of these?

The lies are coming
So September is moving along nicely and I've realized the season of lies is about to begin.
The first lies will be from TV, promising you hot new shows, new and old shows alike will be promised in certain time slots. Said shows will inevitably end up scattered across the board due to mysterious rearranging after iniital viewer counts are in. They will also be continually displaced by whatever new political coverage the media feels needs more airing during campaign season.
Now don't get me wrong here I cannot wait for House, Numb3rs, CSI and Grey's anatomy to return. However I'm well aware that the promo material from the up coming seasons is filled with carefully cut and edited scenes misconstruing things. I know it's a marketing shtick but it gets old. Besides all those shows have been running so long that invested viewers don't care about the promos becuase we just want to get on with the story and anyone new caught watching them is just confused becuase you need to have seen previous seasons to understand what the promos mean.
All in all like most new seasons of TV I'm excited for and at the same time dreading the letdown I know is inevitable.
The second set of lies starting this season really only directly affects those in school or with friends there. During the first few weeks of classes pretty much all promises and assurances of meetings, agreements to send reminders about things or even call are void. School sucks away peoples time and more often than not people forget or are too tired to get back to prior commitments by the time school and homework is done . I'm not saying it's everyone but it does happen. I've been there on both sides so while in the past I have been pissed that I'm suddenly abandoned I've also called people last minute with a mumbled " School drained me can't come sorry," before passing out on the couch.
It's understandable becuase hey education is important but it seems like September even more than exam time distances people and leaves me feeling untrusting of anything promised by a school attending friend.
Election day in Canada is October 14. Just a few days ago the campaigning started, discerning truth from the lies on tv ads is now going to become a national pastime I'm sure
Just a few hours ago I checked out our main parties websites , somehow they are all claiming credit for the good things we have gotten lately and are all blaming each other ( cept the Bloc who is just sitting back laughing at us silly English speakers) for everything that's wrong. Even the party I want to vote for is playing this game. It may be a well known fact that politicians are deceivers but I'd like to vote for a lesser evil you know and it's hard when even the people you like won't play fair. Either way I expect lots of lying , scandals and ass covering over the next months.
Fall is approaching and it's once again safe for me to walk outside without suffering heat stroke or allergy attacks . It is also time for me to lie to myself that I don't really mind the extra lbs I'm carrying, that I can motivate myself to workout indoors rather than take a walk and that swaying side to side in my chair while watching youtube completely burns off the calories from the bowl of icecream I just ate.
Anyone else experiencing a season of lies about now?

The first piece
I suppose the best way to start this off is with the basics.
Who are you?
I'm a 21 year old engaged woman living in the land of ice and snow. I'm at that awkward stage where I don't feel like a kid anymore, hate their music, don't understand their lingo and god forbid I try to figure out fashion today. Not that I was ever particularly fashion savvy to be honest. on the flip side anyone over the age of twenty three treats me like I'm a bratty teenager, incapable of being independent ( did I mention I live with my fiance, have worked and do my taxes ) or participating in adult conversations with any degree of seriousness.
It's a world of frustration because I want to talk world politics with other adults without being ignored and at the same time I don't want to feel so far removed from my childhood that I can't enjoy movies aimed at teenagers anymore. Somewhere I'm sure is a happy medium, all i hav to do is find it.
I am also an overemotional pisces, the new owner of a navy blue beta( gender unknown atm as I haven't looked and we inherited it) an avid reader and wistfully hopeful someday novelist. I like to study religions , dabble in cooking and I'm known for having a hard time staying on any particular topic.
Why are you blogging?
Becuase I'm too cool for LJ?
I'm here on blogger becuase it feels a bit more mature, of which I'm sure I'm probably wrong but hey all I've ever read on here are mommyblogs and it make my opinion biased for now.
Mostly though I wanted something new, a fresh start while I try and put my life together, a new group of people to get to known and share some good stories with.
What will be in this blog?
My life, rants, raves, Moments I feel like sharing and questions I feel like asking. I can't really label this blog yet. I don't really know all I'm going say here, I just know I have a lot to say.

I'm here on blogger becuase it feels a bit more mature, of which I'm sure I'm probably wrong but hey all I've ever read on here are mommyblogs and it make my opinion biased for now.
Mostly though I wanted something new, a fresh start while I try and put my life together, a new group of people to get to known and share some good stories with.
What will be in this blog?
My life, rants, raves, Moments I feel like sharing and questions I feel like asking. I can't really label this blog yet. I don't really know all I'm going say here, I just know I have a lot to say.
